Update: Scripture Explorers Club

Posted on

Last week I quickly mentioned that my church is currently working on creating and implementing our own childrens ministry program and that I would later explain it in more detail in a later post.

This post will be a quick rundown through the program. It will not cover every little detail, but it will give you a good idea of what the program will be like.

In the coming weeks we hope to create a website where all the material will be uploaded and available to be downloaded for free by any church that wishes to try out the Scripture Explorers program.

LogoThe program is called Scripture Explorers.

Club motto: “Worshipping God By Knowing Him And Making Him Known”

Club Verse: “and how from childhood you have been acquainted with the sacred writings, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus.” 2 Timothy 3:15

Club focus: Teaching children the foundational truths of Gods Word so that they can have a concrete understanding of God Himself and be equipped to share Him with others.

The club will be divided into different age groups.

Lamb Uniform Logo The first group are the Lambs.

Age: 3 to 4 years old.

Group verse: “My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me.” John 10:27

Mascot name: Wool.

Bee Uniform Logo

The second group are the Bees.

Age: Kindergarten to Second grade.

Group verse: “How sweet are your words to my taste, sweeter than honey to my mouth!” Psalm 119:103

Mascot name: Pollen

Ant Uniform Logo

The third group are the Ants.

Age: Third grade to Sixth grade.

Group verse: “I have stored up your word in my heart, that I might not sin against you.” Psalm 119:11

Mascot name: Harvest.

Eagle Uniform Logo

The last group are the Eagles.

Age: Middle school to High school.

Group verse: “And how from childhood you have been acquainted with the sacred writings, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus.” 2 Timothy 3:15

Mascot name: Feathers.

Workbooks

Children in each group will first have to complete an entrance booklet before they earn their main book. (Sample)

The entrance booklet serves two purposes:

  1. It will give kids a sample of what they will be learning in the main book.
  2. They will learn to get into the practice of memorizing Bible verses.

After they finish the entrance booklet they will earn and work on the main book. (Sample)

The book is divided into different sections with a variety of lessons in each.

Each lesson is divided into 4 sections:

  1. Biblical Truth- The main teaching of the lesson.
  2. QandA- The application of the teaching.
  3. Definitions- An explanation of specific word(s) that help kids understand the Bible verse.
  4. Memorize- The Bible verse that the kids need to memorize.

Every year the book will cover a specific doctrine.

Book One is The Bible. Kids will learn the answer to questions like: What is the Bible? How did we get the Bible? Why is the Bible important? How can we trust that the Bible is true?

The next books will cover doctrines like: God, Creation, The Fall Of Man, Christ, Justification, Sanctification.

Every group will use the same book, although adapted for their age.

The Bible Lesson

The teaching will be based on the lessons from the book. This way the handbook helps to reinforce the lesson and the lesson helps to reinforce the handbook.

So this was a very quick rundown/outline of the program itself.

When the website goes up we will also include other resources like: clip art, achievement pages, ideas for uniforms, ideas for book-bags, certificates, coloring pages, door hangers and flyers, postcards, forms (registration, weekly point sheets, sign in) and of course the logos.

Ill let you guys know as soon as the website is up and running. So keep your eyes out for that.

Wolves In Sheeps Clothing

Posted on Updated on

Some people are like wolves who pretend to be sheep. They act and dress like the sheep, only to destroy the lambs once they are among them.  We should teach our kids that the Bible tells us how we can figure out which sheep are true sheep, and which are wolves. This emphasizes the importance of reading and knowing Scripture.

Wolves In Sheeps Clothing

Instructions

  1. Print the template. (Template)
  2. Color the mask.
  3. Cut it out.
  4. Glue the mask onto a piece of cardstock.
  5. Cut out the mask again, including the eyes.
  6. Glue a large popsicle stick to the bottom of the mask.

Faith Comes By Hearing

Posted on Updated on

Children don’t understand everything they read in the Bible, but they should be taught the importance of reading the Bible at an early age. Teach them the importance of reading Scripture every day.  Let their lives be saturated by the Word Of God so they cultivate a habit of turning to the Bible for any question they might have.

“So faith comes from hearing, and hearing through the word of Christ.” Romans 10:17

Suggestions

This craft can also be used for the story of Mary and Martha in Luke 10.

Faith Comes By Hearing

Instructions

  1. Print the templates. I have included three different sizes of ears. (Template)
  2. Color the head and the ears.
  3. Cut out all of the pieces.
  4. Glue the long rectangle pieces to each side of the head/hair piece.
  5. Wrap the band around your kids head. Once you have the desired length use a couple of paper clips or a piece of tape to hold the shape. Then add glue to set it in place.
  6. Fold back the square on each ear.
  7. Add glue to each square on each ear and with the band around the childs head stick the ears in place.

I have included templates for both boys and girls.

Armor Of God

Posted on Updated on

The armor of God described in the book of Ephesians is a popular theme for Sunday School lessons and Vacation Bible Schools. Kids not only like making the armor, but they enjoy putting it on and playing around with it.

This past week I decided to come up with my own version of the armor of God.  For the next six days I will be posting crafts on the complete armor of God. Each day will bring a different part of the armor. I’m sure your kiddos will love them.

Armor Of God

“10 Finally, be strong in the Lord and in the strength of His might. 11 Put on the full armor of God, so that you will be able to stand firm against the schemes of the devil.” Ephesians 6:10-11

Your Word Sweeter Than Honey

Posted on Updated on

“How sweet are your words to my taste, sweeter than honey to my mouth.” Psalm 119:103

This is the attitude our children should have towards God Word. We should teach them to desire Scripture. Children should want to read it. They should want to memorize it. Our goal should be that through the work of the Holy Spirit, the authoritative truth of the Bible might be understood and embraced so students may see and interpret all of life through the truth of Scripture.

Your Word Sweeter Than Honey

Instructions

  1. Print the template. (Template)
  2. Color and cut out each piece.
  3. Glue the honeycomb onto a piece of cardstock or construction paper for strength.
  4. Trace each hexagon with orange marker. Alternatively you can also use glitter glue around each hexagon.
